If I Had a Hammer Print
If I Had a Hammer is an open edition print by Derek Hess featuring a human figure kneeling next to garbage cans, nailing his hand to the ground. It's a piece addressing one's state of mental health, specifically the feeling of being discarded and put out with the trash.
Derek said, "This piece is a series of horizontal lines. The top is a line of clouds, below that is a line of barbed wire. Below the barbed wire, is a fence, and then cans of garbage. The figure has bought into the feeling of being discarded and makes it worse by self-inflicting pain, the feeling he’s most comfortable with. Everything else is foreign to him."
Printed on 270 GSM acid-free fine art matte paper.
