May 1969 is an open edition print by Derek Hess that features a red-headed female figure drawn over top of a vintage Playboy cover from May of 1969. Derek said, "I tried several different mediums to draw the figure. Acrylics wouldn’t work because the magazine cover paper is slick and nonporous and can’t hold paint. I could use markers but they would fade over time. The best medium I found was grease pencils. I did over 100 playboy covers and you can see the whole body of work in my book He Ain’t No Vargas."
