After a successful 25 year career as an internationally recognized artist, Derek Hess went public about his struggles with alcoholism and bipolar disorder and has become an outspoken voice for mental health and addiction awareness. In 2016, Hess’s life and art were the subject of the award-winning documentary “Forced Perspective,” and his latest book, “31 Days In May” was created in an effort to help remove the stigma around mental illness.
